about

Using different techniques and scales in painting, Ana Prata develops a research based on experimentation. Her works are full of events between different layers of paint, supports and gestures, which result in images of a restless, dynamic and lively character. In her themes, Prata’s practice combines the employment of historical references – such as the use of a modernist repertoire – with images from a common and popular imaginary, such as simple drawings and widely recognizable patterns. Her work possesses a latent ambiguity, which can transit between humor, interiority and intimacy, critical spirit, and appreciation for the pictorial surface.

Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of São Paulo, Ana Prata participated in the 33rd São Paulo Biennial – Afinidades Afetivas, São Paulo, SP (2018). Prata  held solo exhibitions at Sesc Pompeia, São Paulo, SP (2022); Tobias Mueller Modern Art, Zurich, Switzerland (2020); Galería Travesía Cuatro, Guadalajara, Mexico and Madrid, Spain (2020); Galeria Isla Flotante, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Auroras, São Paulo, SP (2019); Biblioteca Mário de Andrade, São Paulo, SP (2018); Galeria Millan, São Paulo, SP (2014 and 2017); Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London, UK (2016); Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo, SP (2012); and Centro Cultural São Paulo, SP (2009), among others.
